DIABETES

One of the most important risk factor for heart attack is diabetes.  High blood sugar will cause the following disease in humans.

Type 1 diabetes is due to failure of pancreas. It is known as Insulin dependent. Type 2 diabetes is due to rejection of cells to accept insulin. It is known as non insulin dependent treatable with medication. Gestational diabetes occurs in women during pregnancy. It may be transient or permanent.

Overview of the most significant symptoms of diabetes

Signs and symptoms: Weight loss, increased urination, increased hunger, increased thirst, headache, fatigue, slow healing of cuts, itchy skin,

Low blood sugar: Will cause feelings of unease, sweating, trembling, confusion, change in behavior, unconsciousness, rarely permanent brain damage and death.
The long term complications of diabetes relate to major damages to blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Loss of insulin producing Beta cells in pancreas will cause reduction in production of insulin. Type -1 affects mostly children.

Type-2 diabetes is due to insulin resistance. It is caused by obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, eating lot of white rice and fatty food materials.

Insulin is responsible for taking glucose. The body obtains glucose from three places: intestinal absorption, the breakdown of glycogen, stored glucose in liver. It plays a vital role in balancing glucose in the body. It can inhibit breakdown of glycogen, production of glucose from non carbohydrate, depositing glucose in muscle cells and fat.

Insulin is used by two third of body cells to absorb glucose from blood to be used as fuel. When glucose is not absorbed by the body they will not be stored in liver and muscles. The high level of blood glucose in blood consistently protein synthesis is gravely affected. The kidney will send out glucose in the urine.

There is no known preventive method for Type-1 diabetes. In case of Type 2 diabetes diet control will prevent it to a large extent. Maintaining normal body weight, physical exercise and healthy diet will give relief to a greater extent.
